Artificial Intelligence is Redefining Artist Collaborations

Artificial Intelligence is Redefining Artist Collaborations

Traditionally, when someone wants to collaborate with you, here are the 10 steps of Artist Collaboration:

  1. Contact  you
  2. Send you an outline of the project and their expectation of how you should perform on the song.
  3. Go back and forth in revising the song until it meets both parties’ expectations.
  4. Wait to book studio time to record
  5. Record it
  6. Sit on it for a few weeks to figure out if the song is complete.
  7. Send over the stems for your part of the song.
  8. The collaborator sends it to the mixing engineer.
  9. You both review the mixed product and revise until approval.
  10. The final mixed version is sent to the Mastering Engineer.
  11. You both review the mastered product and revise until approval.

However, thanks to AI (artificial intelligence) the process of how artists collaborate with one another in the future is going to undergo a radical transformation. It will look something like this:

  1. The collaborator logs onto your website.
  2. They select which voice of yours they would like (angry, passionate, etc.)
  3. They type in the lyrics or auto-generate the lyrics using an AI bot.
  4. The song is created using these lyrics and the artist’s voice in second.
  5. They pay and download the version they like.

Fighting the Future of Artificial Intelligence In Music Collaboration:

Fighting the Future of Artificial Intelligence In Music Collaboration

Despite the fact that I am somewhat of a traditionalist, the thought of something like this honestly gives me the creeps. However,  the most prudent action that I should do is to put myself in a position in which I can benefit from the latest advancements in AI and study how I can use it to the best of my ability. Having said that, I’m not going to pretend that it doesn’t make me a little bit nervous. Bear in mind that I am coming from a place where my forebears considered (soundclick, which was the Primitive version of SoundCloud), to be way too progressive for them. However, if it weren’t for Soundclick- I wouldn’t have met the homies who held me down in the first stages of my career through collaboration and support. Working with artists such as themselves from all parts of the world was truly an amazing experience! l. Our workflow was more so optimizing the use of emailing and transferring zipped files through cloud storage websites. All while our forebears were still traveling to the same studios as their collaborator, just to record.

Consequently,  it makes me think It’s only a matter of time before artificial intelligence systems like those developed by Jasper AI and OpenAI start normalizing the provision of  computer automated voices using voices that we input into their systems.

After all, there are AI companies who have already developed services that allow you to hire a talking head to speak about your business. You just  enter the text that you want the talking head to say and it will repeat whatever it is that you type into the systems.

Conclusion

Position yourself to stay ahead of the curve. In light of the ongoing battle between humans and artificial intelligence, it is essential that you position yourself in such a way that you are best equipped for the future of the music industry. In this day and age of the rise of artificial intelligence, here are some pointers on how to maintain your relevance as a human being, or more specifically, yourself.
