ISRCs (International Standard Recording Codes) are a type of barcode. Each ISRC code has 12 digits and contains information such as the country of its release and year in which it was released. They are helpful to classify each and every one of the world’s recordings.
When a recording of any song is distributed, an ISRC number is usually assigned to it. When you develop your release, online music distribution services will generate ISRCs for your use.
Since it was transmitted in two separate ways, the same recording mustn’t have two ISRC codes. If your music does have ISRC codes from a previous release, all subsequent releases should have the same ISRC code.
This could happen if your contract with a label expired and you’re now releasing the same recordings on your own, or if you’re switching digital music streaming platforms and need to move your information. In any case, the ISRC code you were given the first time around would apply.
ISRCs are critical because they mark your music as yours. You need to make sure that you have all of your ISRC information straight from the start, and that you keep accurate records for all of your ISRCs in the future.
